Fire Prevention Week

For day two of Fire Prevention Week, we want to remind everyone of some common issues we see not only nationwide, but in our own town. Recently we have had multiple calls relating to malfunctioning smoke alarms, so here are some fun facts about those little boxes that let you know when dinner is done.

🚨 Smoke alarms detect and alert people to a fire in the early stages. Smoke alarms can mean the difference between life and death in a fire.

🚨 Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half.

🚨 Smoke alarms need to be installed in every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including the basement.

🚨 Test smoke alarms at least once a month using the test button and check your batteries when you change your clocks in the fall and spring.

🚨 Make sure everyone in the home understands the sound of the smoke alarm and knows how to respond.
So next time you are practicing your family escape plan remember to set off your Smoke alarm for a more realistic event.
