Prosser Science Expo – April 2018

The whole family had fun and learned how science contributes to the economy and health in the area at the free and open to all ages Prosser Science Expo, held April 21, 2018!

West Benton Fire Rescue firefighters burned a small building and taught the community about fire science.

There were also tables with bugs, bees, birds, rocks, lampreys, and fish! Speakers talked about wildlife conservation, robotics in agriculture, and both practical and fun applied science. There was a Lamprey release near the bridge across from Les Schwab. Lampreys are important in the valley area as predators eat lampreys and that saves the salmon population.

To round out the Scienc Expo, there was an exciting evening event with Dr. David Montgomery (UW, Professor of Earth and Space Sciences) and his wife Anne Biklé. They have written two books about soil and health, and they discussed them that evening at Airfield Estates Winery.
